Brearley and Prechard opened the bowling, and the overnight partnership of Gregory and Howell was quickly dissolved. Howell added a single, and was dismissed with an easy catch by Wlrner at mid-ou. He batted 130 minutes, and gave a brilliant display. He made 14 fonrers. The partnership lasted 105 minutes, with fierce hitting the last twenty minutes.
