New Zealand Team y. North Tasmania.

Launceston, February 10.

This, the second match in the tour of the New Zealand representative team, began at Launceston to day. Cobcroft won the toss, and elected to bat. Ike Mills and Frankish stood out of the New Zealand team.

George Mills, who should have been caught behind the wickets previously, was clean bowled by Pickett. One wicket fell for 4 runs. Windsor, who was dead on, captured Baker's and Cobcroft’s wickets with two successive balls, and tho board showed two and three wickets for 4 runs.

At 87 Reese was badly missed in the long field, arid at 60 a double change of bowling was effected. Wilson's fourth ball Reese put up in the slips, where he was held, and the where he was held, and the score stood: 4

With tho score at 02, Sims was caught for 11. With the score at 154, Fisher, who had batted very nicely, was foolishly run out. His score included two 4’s, one 3, seven 2’s.

At 164 Lusk played a false stroke into the bands of Palmer at point. Ills 83 included two s’s (the result of overthrows), seven 4’s, fourb’s, seven 2’s.

At 171 Boxshall played Hammond on. At 214 Downes, who had been batting for an hour and a half without giving the semblance of a chance, hit Pickett into the slips, where Kissling brought off an easy catch. Downes’ score included one 5 (the only Hit in the game outside the boundary), eight 4’s, two 3’s, and eight 2’s. Savigney in the next over lowered Upham's stumps. Ashbolt played a very serviceable innings.

New Zealanders.—First innings— Baker, bowled, 0; George Mills, bowled, 4 ; Reese, caught, 21 ; Cobcroft, bowled, 0 ; Lusk, caught, 83 ; Sims, caught, 11 ; Fislier, run out, 29 ; Downes, caught, 74 ; Boxshall, bowled, 0 ; Ashbolt, not out, 7; Upham, bowled, 0; extras, 16; total, 245. Piokett took two wickets for 53 runs; Hammond, two for 88; Windsor, two for 61 ; Wilson, one for 59. With little more than an hour’s play, Windsor and Savigney faced Reese and Upham. The latter delivered two no-balls. Several ineffectual changes in the bowling were tried. Both batsmen played excellently. The scores so far are ;—Windsor, not out, 24 ; Savigney, not out, 18. The Tasmanians have lost no wickets for 44 runs. Received February 12, 10.80 p m. Launceston, February 11. The weather was hot for the second day of the match, and the wicket was crumbing. North Tasmania in the hi'st innings made 829, the principal scores being—Savigney 22, Windsor 181, Wilson 18, Westbrook 22, Ramsay 81, Kissing 11, Pickett 12, extras 24.

Reese took 3 wickets for 55, Upham 4 for 62, Fisher nil for 50, Ashbolt nil for 30, Sims nil for 13, Downes 3 for 95.

At the close of the day’s play the New Zealander'S in the second innings had lost one wicket for 86, Reese 26, Baker, not out 41, Lusk, not out, 9, extras 10.
