CHRISTCHURCH HIGH SCHOOL
OLD BOYS’ REUNION. The first annual reunion dinner of the Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Association (Dunedin branch) was held in the Somerset Lounge on Tuesday evening. Mr H. Chapman presided. A large number of old boys was present along with a number of visitors representing kindred associations. A silent tribute was paid to the memory of the late headmaster (Mr C. E. Bevan Brown), all present standing in silence. A lengthy toast list was honoured. The school song was sung by all present, the composer of the words of this song being Mr W F. Alexander, who was amongst those present. A few communitysongs were also indulged in, whilst Mr G. Stuart-Thomson and Mr Owles contributed songs. Mr Hunter gave a recitation, and Mr H. Chapman and Mr Hunter provided a scene from a play. Mr Maunsell, a visitor from the Nelson Old Collegians’ Association, acted as accompanist. During the evening a suggestion was put forward that there should be once a year a combined gathering of all the old boys’ associations in the form of a ball or dinner to foster interest in the secondary schools, and it is understood that something of this nature is likely to eventuate in the near future.
