OTAGO LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Otago Land Board was held on Wednesday, and was attended by Messrs N. 0. Kensington (chairman) } G Livingstone, J. R. McCulloch, M. A. Kinney, and D. McLennan.

MEETINGS OF BOARD*. Subject to the approval of the GovernorGeneral, the board determined that meetings during 1931 be held on the second Wednesday of each month except in April, when the meeting will be held on the third Wednesday. EXCHANGE OF AREAS.

Messrs Bodkin and Sunderland, on behalf of the parties concerned, applied for the board’s permission to have 800 acres (approximately) deleted from run 566 (V. G. Spain—P.R. 1537) and added to run 565 (H. M. Preston —P.R. 1534), and to have 1200 acres (approximately) deleted from run 565 a (H. M. Preston—P.R. 1535) and added to run 566 (V. G. Spain —P.R. 1537). They further requested that a title over 250 acres (being part of the 1200 acres referred to), on ■which arc situated sheep yards, dip and hut, be issued in the joint names of Messrs Preston and Spain.—Proposals recommended and transaction left in the hands of the commissioner to complete. PERMISSION TO OCCUPY AREA. Cyril Alexander Gibson applied for permission to occupy section 135, Ardgowan settlement, from year to year, at present held under miscellaneous license No. 1206 s by William Herbert Hide.—Miscellaneous license 1206 s cancelled, and permission granted to occupy the area from year to year at an annual rental of £1 4s.

Margaret Strachan applied for permission to occupy section 40, block 1, Hawkesbury S.D. (3 acres J. rood 30 perches), at present held under miscellaneous license No. 1887 by H. Thomson, who no longer requires the area.—Permission granted to occupy the area from year to year at an annual rental of £1 10s. DISPOSAL OF LAND.

The question of the disposal of sections 1,2, and 21, block IV, town of Balclutha, area 3 roods. —Sections to be offered for sale by public auction at upsets of £3O and £l5

The question of increase of area of the license held by John Muir over section 182, block XIX, Tuapeka East S.D.— Advisory Committee to inspect. The county clerk of the Clutha County Council advised that a deputation consisting of the chairman (Cr Wilson), Cr King, and the county engineer was desirous of appearing before the board in connection with the disposal of section 2, block 11, Tautuku S.D., a portion of which the council desired to lease as an area for a roadman’s hut.—Held over. The clerk of the Clutha County Council intimated that a deputation from his council would wait on the board in connection with the proposed disposal of section 41, block I, Pomahaka S.D.. Ila Ir 23p. A petition signed by E. King and 40 others had been lodged requesting that the area be retained as a resting place for stock. —Left in the hands of the commissioner. The commissioner submitted for final consideration the application of Mrs Abigail Moffat to purchase closed road section 1335 r, block XXXIII, Clutha S.D., area lr 08p.—Granted, at a price of £7 10s. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. T. E. Morgan, of Cambrian, applied for an area of approximately 25 acres of unoccupied Crown land in block I, St Bathans S.D.—Referred to Advisory Committee for report. Malcolm. Jackson M'Kenzie, of Makarora, applied for a renewable lease over approximately 50 acres in the Makarora Valley.—The application was refused. Charles Henderson, of Taieri Mouth, fisherman, applied for a lease of section 21, block IX, town of Hull, area 13.2 poles,—The application was refused.

C. P. F. Fahey applied for a right to occupy sections 1,2, 3,5, 6, 9. 11, 12, and 16, block I, town of Waitaki Bridge 2r 37p.—Granted on the usual conditions, at an annual rental of £l.

C. S. Shanks applied for a renewable lease over part section 25, block IV, Tautuku S D., comprising 5 acres.— Granted at a capital value of £2O. APPLICATIONS FOR PERMISSION TO OCCUPY.

Emily May Bell applied for permission to occupy section 68, block XII, Lower Hawea, 3r 3.5 p, at present held under miscellaneous license by Ernest Robertson.—Miscellaneous license No 3400 in the name of Ernest Robertson cancelled, and permission granted to Emily May Bell to occupy the area from year to year at an annual rental of 10s. John T. Greaves applied for permission to occupy allotment 9, foreshore. Shag Point, Moeraki S.D., 3 roods, at present held under M.L. 3692 by John Jerry, jun, who no longer required the area.—Permission granted to occupy from year to year at an annual rental of 10s.

APPLICATION FOR NEW LICENSE J. C. Nichols, of Makarora Station, ap plied to surrender his pastoral license No 1822 over runs 99 and 430 b, Vincent County, area 65,270 acres, term 35 years, from March 1, 1927, and to obtain a new license over the runs, including the area at present held by him under miscellaneous license 3772, comprising 813 acres.—Held over. ALTERATION OF MISCELLANEOUS LICENSE. The commissioner subniitied for consideration the question of deleting from miscellaneous license 3643 (in the name of the Clyde Town Trust), over unoccupied Crown lands in Clyde township, an area of approximately 140 acres.—Area reduced to approximately 35 acres; no alteration in annual rental. SURRENDER OF LICENSE. H. Bissett applied to surrender his miscellaneous license 3702 over part Mining reserve, block VI, Maniototo S.D., comprising approximately 10 acres 2 roods 15 perches.—License determined as from December 10, 1930. W. S. and H. H. Pitt applied to surrender. miscellaneous license .231, over an area of approximately 3150 acres, in

blocks VII and VIII, Rankleburn S.D. — License determined as from August 12, 1930.

DETERMINATION OF LICENSE.

The question of cancellation of miscellaneous license No. 2693, in the name of John Andrew, over portion of allotment 1> Shag Point, in Moeraki S.D., area approximately 30 poles, was considered.— License determined as from September 12, 1930. John M'Master applied to surrender his miscellaneous license No. 3504, over an area of Crown land on the left bank of the Arrow River, near its junction with the Kawarau River, comprising 37 acres. —License determined as from September 13, 1930. DETERMINATION OF LEASE. F. Tourell’s lease over the buildings on section Is, Melvilje Park settlement, was determined as from September 15, 1930. DETERMINATION OF MISCELLANEOUS LICENSE. Miscellaneous license 2288, over an area of approximately one acre, in block I, Kurow S.D., in the name of L. D. Cairns, was determined as from November 2, 1930. Miscellaneous license No. 3476, in the name of William Johnstone, over sections 245,, 255, and 41s (dip and sheep yards), Teviot settlement, area 15 acres, 3 roods 32 poles, and issuing a new license in the name of all the members of the committee. —Miscellaneous license determined as from April 12, 1930, and a right to occupy granted, at an annual rental of £l2 Bs, such right to be in the names of all the members of the committee. Miscellaneous license No. 2828, over sections 1,2, and 21, block IV, town of Balclutha, in the name of John M'Callum, was submitted for consideration.—License determined as from October 8, 1930. BURNING TUSSOCK. The commissioner reported that he had given permission to burn tussock to the following:—J. C. Weir, rum 2481, Taieri and Maniototo counties; James Freeland, sections 1, block VI and 2,3, and 8, block X, Swmburn S.D.; Robert Jopp, runs 520 and 521; S. T. Spain and L. H. Denniston, run 249. Vincent County; G. B Henderson, run 236 b, Vincent County; J. P. Little, manager of Puketoi Station, run 621, Maniototo County; Gilbert Winslow, 515, Teviot S.D.; F. C. Morgan, run 585, Hawkdun. “THIRDS,” ETC. The Maniototo County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of “ Thirds,” etc., accrued from period ended July 31, 1930, amounting to £32 3s.— Proposals approved, and receiver authorised to pay. SUB-LEASE. Section 13, block VIII, Woodland S.D., 320 acres—Thomas V. Latta to William S. Falconer.—Approved. Section 77, block HI, Cromwell S.D., 58 acres 0 roods 09 poles—Jane Clark to James B. Clark.—Recommended for approval of the Minister of Lands. Section 47a, block 111, Cromwell S.D., 61 acres 2 roods 02 poles—Jane Clark to James B. Clark. —Approved conditionally. Section 58, block I, Crookston S.D., 6a lr 09p—John Charles Borthwick to David Hawton Jones.—Left in the hands of the commissioner. TRANSFERS.

Hamilton, who recently purchased part section 32 (quarter acre), Elderslie Settlement, adjacent to the Kakanui River, for the purpose of erecting a pumping plant, submitted a transfer of grant of easement affecting sections 16a (C. A. Browne), 1 of 17a (W. A. Milmine), 31a and 18a (R. Hamilton), 19a (T. Slattery), and 22a (P. O’Neill), Elderslie Settlement, for the approval of the board. This was in connection with the supply of water to the respective sections.—Approved.

Application for permission to occupy area:. Joseph C. T. M'Devitt applied for permission to occupy an area adjoining sections 9, 11, and 16, block 111, Black stone S.D., area 80 acres, at present held under miscellaneous license by the Public Trustee.—Miscellaneous license No. 574 cancelled, and permission granted to Joseph C.
