BURSARIES GRANTED EXCEED £5OOO.

WELLINGTON, October 10. The annual meeting of the executive of the Trentham Scholarship War Fund Association was held to-day. Air S. Kirkealdie presided, and there were also present General Young, Colonel Avery, Major Forgie, Sir Alexander Roberts, Air T. B. Strong (Director of Education), and Air F Meadowcroft. The tenth annual report stated that applications for 313 bursaries had been received, as compared with 308 in the previous year. The following awards were made: —Renewals 195, £3692 10s; new awards 83, £1575; declined 35; —total, 313, £5267 10s. The following is a classified statement of the awards made:—Class 1 (to children of deceased men), 214, £4232 10s; class 2 (to children of partly or wholly disabled men), 61, £900; class 3 (to children of men who served overseas), 3, £4s;—total, 278, £5267 10s; average award, £lB 19s. Since the inception of the fund the sum of £36,943 6s has been paid to bursars, representing 1514 bursaries awarded and affecting 635 children. On the average each of the 635 children has benefited to the extent of £5B 3s 7d.
