BOOKMAKER FINED.

PENALTY OF £lOO IMPOSED.

AUCKLAND, October 10.

Thomas Curran, aged 53, was fined £lOO for keeping a common gaining house. The detectives who raided the premises found evidence of many bets on the Otaki races. "Can he pay the fine?” asked the magistrate. The defendant: “Yes. That’s all Tight.” “ It’s a good business,” remarked Detective Kelly.
