BOXING. CARNERA’S FIRST DEFEAT. NEW YORK, October 7. At Boston, Jimmy Moloney, of Boston, secured a decision over Camera in a 10round contest. This is Camera’s first defeat .in his American tour. Moloney fought a swift, heady battle, finishing in a whirl, despite the fact that he badly hurt his right hand with a heavy blow Camera s head. Camera withstood considerable punishment. BILLIARDS. PHELPS RETAINS TITLE. . LONDON, October 11. . Pnelps retained the championship sculling race convincingly in ideal PutnevAlortlake conditions. There was little public interest. Barry’s quicker sroke gained for him early a two lengths’ lead, but Phelps drew up with him at Hammersmith bridge, and had six lengths’ advantage at Barnes bridge, thereafter forcin'* ahead and just paddling past the post an easy winner. RIFLE SHOOTING.
NEW SOUTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIP.
SYDNEY, October 12. One thousand men are competing in the State Rifle Championship meeting, which was opened in drizzling ran on the Anzac range at Liverpool. The shooting was of a high standard. The Douglas aggregate was won by Wagner, of Newcastle, with a score of 68, and Pendrieh, of Wagga, was runnerup with 67.
