THE AIR FORCE.

SMART TRIP BY CUTTY SARK. WELLINGTON, October 6. The flying boat Cutty Sark put up good time on a trip to Nelson and back yesterday. Leaving Evans Bay at 10.20 a.m. the machine reached Nelson, via French Pass, an hour and a-half later. The return journey was commenced at 1.10 p.m. and the flying boat, taking the shorter route across the Sounds, reached Evan’s Bay after being one hour 10 minutes in the air. Squadron-leader L. M. Isitt piloted the machine, and Flight-lieutenant A. De T. Nevill- was a passenger. The strong northerly wind last night provided a good test for the moored flying boat, which came through the strain very satisfactorily. She will probably leave early to-morrow morning on the return trip to Hobsonville, via New Plymouth. The Director of Air Services (Wingcommander S. Grant-Dalton) will leave Rongotai to-morrow morning for Sockburn in a service Moth, which was brought down from Hobsonville to-day by Flight-lieutenant Wallingford. The machine left Hobsonville at about 6 o’clock this morning and reached Rongotai about noon, after landing at New Plymouth. The director is expected to be away for a week.
