A small whale, about 30 feet long, which appeared to differ considerably from any previously cast up, was recently found by Mr Arthur Traill at Mason’s Bay (states the correspondent of the Southland News). As the Government authorities on fishing matters were interested in the find, the finder carefully gathered the bones of the skeleton . as the carcass decomposed, and the complete skeleton will shortly be consigned to Christchurch, where it will be thoroughly investigated. It hears most resemblance to the porpoise whale, and has tw-o promient teeth only, situated at the extreme end of the snout. Those communicated with appear to think it is one of the rarest whales, and should be valuable in that case.
