POSTAL AND TELEGRAPH REVENUE.

QUARTERLY RETURN. WELLINGTON, February 6. A return of the postal revenue for the quarter ended December 31, 1929, published in the Gazette to-night, shows vhe total postal revenue (shillings and pence omitted) at £389.300, compared with £375,770 for the same period of the previous year. The total telegraphic revenue was £610,446 and £566,206 respectively. The postal revenue at the four main centres was as follows: —Auckland. £84,744; Wellington. £72.388; Christchurch. £38,873; Dunedin, £25,149. The telegraphic revenue was:—Auckland £153.483; Wellington, £127,413; Christchurch. £94,472; Dunedin, £20,027. The Savings Bank returns for the same period show an excess of withdrawals over deposits of £367,678, and for the corresponding period of 1928 it was £403.576 The total amount of deposits for the quarter (with figures for last quarter of 1928 in parentheses) was £7.166.227 (£6.784.178) and the withdrawals £7,533,905 (£7.187,755).
