Satisfaction with the work bein'* done by the three service men employed by the Wellington Automobile Club was expressed by the chairman (Mr E. A. Batt) at a recent meeting of the club's executive. _ Not only were they helping motorists in many ways, but they were getting members. Two hundred and ninetyone new members were elected at the first meeting for the year. Four young women on an improvised raft drifted out far beyond their depth off Oakura beach on Sunday week (says the Taranaki Herald). Their cries of distress were heard by other bathers, and the life-saving reel was hurried to the shore. _ Some difficulty was experienced in finding enough strong swimmers to man the line, but Mr Norman M’Artnev, of New Plymouth, took the belt and swam out and assisted to bring in the raft with the girls in a greatly distressed condition.
