SOUTH ISLAND RESORTS.
FIORD AND LAKE DISTRICTS,
WELLINGTON, January 17.
The Minister in charge of the Tourist and Publicity Departments (Mr P. A de la Perrelle) stated to-day that it had been decided to carry out a vigorous campaign specially advertising ths Bluff-Melbourne service and the advantage which the service offers to the people of Australia to make a tour o{ the famous resorts of the South Island at a moderate cost. “In line with our famous North Island resorts,” said the Minister, “ thj very best is being done. Both island* have attractions, which are famed throughout the world. The executive officers of the departments report that the projected tours of the south, which will embrace the lakes region, the fiords, Mount Cook and other places will be fixed on an inclusive charge basis, so that those undertaking them will know exactly what the cost is to be from the outset. I have made arrangements for Mr S. J. Collett (acting general manager of the Tourist Department) to collaborate with Mr A. H. Messenger (publicity officer) and Mr R. M. Firth (of the New Zealand Melbourne office) to complete arrangements for the immediate launching of a scheme which is to include window displays, special kinema shows, and advertising in the leading daily newspapers of the various States of the Commonwealth, and also in Tasmania. I feel convinced that with the plans ahead we will have very many more visitors to our shores than wa have had in the past.”
