SATURDAY’S MATCHES.

DUNEDIN. The results of the senior cricket matches, which were played under excel; lent conditions on Saturday, brought three teams equal in flag points. Old Boys had no difficulty in securing a two-point win over Albion, scoring 290 for the loss of only five wickets. All of the batsnuen scored well, Giles making 62. Dickinson 38 not out, Alloo 38. Moloney 33, and Leader 25. Shepherd was the only successful bowler, taking three for 35. Old Boys’ attempt to score a three-point win was unsuccessful. Albion losing five wickets for 116 (Barron 41). Moloney took two for 28. Christian Brothers, by beating Carisbrook by the narrow margin of eight runs on the first innings, obtained a two-point win. Blair secured the excellent average of seven for 49. Christian Brothers were dismissed in their second innings for 110, Aitken tak? ing five for 40. Grange dismissed Dunedin for 93 and secured a two-point win. Lemin took three for 20 and Elmes twq for 28. Bowling for Dunedin, Hope took four wickets for 34 runs, Douglas one for 6, and Torrance one for 4. Dunedin made 133 runs in their second innings, Pyne (37), Arnold (27), Prebble (19), Hope (16), and Constable (15) being the Lest. Bowling for Kaikorai, Ahlbrandt (five wickets for 55 runs) and Harris (three for .36) secured the honours. Kaikorai secured a three-point win. The match Grange v. Carisbrook A resulted in a win for Grange by an innings and 75 runs. Grange batted first, and made 192 runs (Buswell 33, Mount 27, O. Dey 26, J. Dey 23 not out, Davis 21, Butler 20, and M'Kay 13). Groves (five wickets for 47 runs, Douglas two for 30, Charman two for 46, and M'Leod one for 26 secured the wickets for Carisbroook. Carisbroook, in their first innings, made 52 runs (Charman 14), and, following on, made 65 in their second innings (Napier 22 and M'Leod 10). The bowling honours for Grange in Carisbrook’s first innings were secured by 0. Dey (four wickets for 13 runs), Riach (four for 16), and Downes (two for 8), and in the second innings by M'Kay (four for 15) and Downes (three for 24). A feature of the game was the keen fielding of the Grange team, three Carisbrook players being run out in their second innings Carisbrook B continued their innings against University (238 for nine wickets) and carried their total to 122. Port Chalmers, 178 runs for eight wickets (Culbert 51, Martindale 37. Short 26, Geary 21, Jenkins 13, Armstrong 12. Pepperil 11), beat Dunedin, 25. Bowling for Port Chalmers, Armstrong, Howard, and Jenkins were the best. For Dunedin, Petrie and Scott bowled well. Carisbrook C defeated Old Boys at Carisbrook by 165 runs, scoring 256 to their opponents’ 91. For Carisbrook. Clark (69). Raynor (41), Austin (40), Cameron (20), and five others got ii to double figures. For Old Boys, Algie (43) and Allen (22 not out) battled well. Wolstenholme (four wickets for 25 runs) and Clark (three for 28) bowled best for Carisbroook.

Kaikorai (108) beat Carisbrook (43). Burgess (26), M'Donald (17), Welham (17), and Thomson (10) battled well for Kaikorai, as did Manning (11) for Carisbrook. M'Knight (three wickets for 4 Tuns), Torrance (two for 5), and Bain (three for 8) bowled well for Kaikorai. Armstrong and Manly shared the bowling honours for Carisbrook. In the match Grange v. Christian Brothers, played at Logan Park No. 6. the former team, batting first, compiled 114 runs. Bell (41 not out). Twose (15), Michie (15), L. Beecher (12), and Benfell (10) being the chief scorers. Christian Brothers replied with 67, Westlake (13) and Young (13) being the only double-figure contributors. Bowling for Grange. Breen secured four wickets, Burgess three, Michie two, and Bell one.

Patterson (seven wickets), Laffey, and M'Kewan (one wicket each) shared the honours for Christian Brothers. Grange won by 47 runs.

University B defeated Albion by three wickets and 14 runs. University made 92 for seven wickets (Fraser 24, retired, Rae 22, Lang 18, retired, and E. Brebner 10). Albion made 78 (M'Ghie 24, Kroon 22). For University, Harraway three wickets for 7 runs and Malcolm four for 37 bowled well, as did M'Ghie, Wright, and Ranger for Albion. IN OTHER CENTRES. AUCKLAND COMPETITION. The Auckland Cricket Association’s senior championship was continued on Saturday in fine weather on easy wickets. The games were played according to time table, and, as there had been no play the previous Saturday, matches were confined to one day, all games being drawn. The following are the scores: — Grafton 179 (Allcott 60) played Parnell 101 for two wickets. Ponsonby 169 for four wickets, declared (Snedden 52) met University 69 for five. Y.M.C.A. 132 (Innes 50) met Eden 82 for three (Mills 50, not out). North Shore 154 (Gerrard 50. not out, Kelly 50, not out) met United Suburbs 67 for six wickets. AVELLINGTON MATCHES. Senior cricket was played yesterday in brilliant weather. University made 333 for eight wickets against Kilbirnie. Old Boys 212 met Institute 62 for one wicket. Wellington 298 played Petone 15 for five wickets. Hutt 252 met Midland, who made seven runs without the loss of a wicket. The best batsmen were: H. C. Bailey (University) 132, A. M. Rollings (Wellington) 81, H. M. M'Girr (Hutt) 70, R. N. C. MacKenzie (University) 69, C. G. Hamilton (Wellington) 59, E. Sim (University) 55 not out, R. B. Ross (Hutt) 55, and C. Parsloe (Old Boys) 54. There were no outstanding bowling performances. CHRISTCHURCH GAMES. The seventh round of the senior cricket competition was commenced yesterday in fine weather. Old Collegians, who made 84 (Cromb four wickets for 3 runs, Merritt three for 21, Page three for 27) met Old Boys, who compiled 216 (Grose 46, Burns 53, Burrows 35 not out). Lester took six wickets for 53 runs. Riccarton, playing against West Christchurch, made 399 for four wickets (Roberts 208 not out), Powell 60, Cox 51). St. Albans made 165 (Crawford 104 not out) and Linwood had lost five wickets for 97 (Kerr 44 not out). East Christchurch made 44 (M'Ewin five wickets for 16 runs. Newman three for 6), and Sydenham 134 for four wickets. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES. WIN FOR NEW SOUTH WALES. SYDNEY, January 13. In Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales South Australia in their first innings scored 215 (Grimmett 42, Wall 33 not out; Chilvers four ,or 57, Fairfax three for 43). Following on. South Australia in the second innings scored 100 (Fairfax four for 19, Chilvers four for 30). New South Wales won by an innings and 220 runs. The wicket to-day was seriously affected by the week-end rain. BRISBANE, January 17. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against Queensland South Australia, in their first innigs, have scored 295 for six wickets (Harris 42, Pritchard 33 V. Richardson 112). QUEENSLAND v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA BRISBANE. January 19. In the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland. South Australia, in its first innings, made 365 (Hack 43). Hornibrook took three for 79, and Oxenham three for 76. -Queensland, in its first innings, scored 171 for the loss of seven wickets (Hubbart 41, Higgins 45 not out). SYDNEY GRADE MATCHES.
