UNIVERSITY DEBATERS.
RETURN TO NEW ZEALAND.
WELLINGTON, January 14
The three Victoria College debaters who recently toured Canada and the United States have returned with pleasant recollections of their trip. They had a wonderfully successful series of debates with the American universities, and have learned a good deal about American life and people. Out of 28 debates the New Zealanders won 17; there was one draw, one loss, and in nine there was no decision. The loss was at Hamilton, New York State while the draw was at the Regina Speaking Club, where the three judges took half an hour to give their reasons for deciding against the New Zealanders ; but the audience gave a twothirds vote for the visiting team, so the result was declared a draw. Amongst the universities and colleges visited were Columbia, Princctown. Hamilton, Vassa , Pennsylvania State, Hood, Boston, Williams, Afiddlebury, and Dartmouth.
