In some parts of Hawke's Bay it has been noticed that small areas of hill land have i-everted to second growth, which may take some trouble in clearing (reports the Napier Daily Telegraph). A good burn has been suggested as the remedj’ for some of these hills, but close grazing has been a sucess in some cases. When the Minister of Lands (Mr G. W. Forbes) was at Te Wera he was shown a hill which only 18 months ago carried a thick covering of fern. This was close to the entrance of the property, and a stranger visiting the place was given a bad first impression, but now this hill bears a verdant appearance which is given by a thick sole of good pasture. This part of the c-itate was stocked he .vily with cattle and sheep, and practically the whole of the growth, of fe’-u has now been cleared.
