ART GALLERY SOCIETY.
ANOTHER HANDSOME FURTHER DONATIONS OF PICTURES. A special meeting of the Council of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery Society was held on Tuesday afternoon (Mr J. Loudon presiding), when there were also present Sir John Roberts, Sir George Fenwick, Sir Lindo Ferguson, Messrs Ernest Price, A. H. O’Keefe, E. Halsted, P. Halsted, D. E. Theomin, and Dr Russell Ritchie. A hearty welcome was accorded to Mr O’Keefe, one of the new members appointed to the council by the artist members of the society. It was intimated that the late Mr Robert Hay had bequeathed the handsome gift of £l5OO to the society, the details of which were not yet available. Mr A. H. Fisher offered for acceptance two very fine works by the late Mrs Fisher, who had been a most esteemed member of the council for years. Mrs J. Greenfield also offered a very fine engraving. The gifts were cordially accepted, and a resolution of grateful thanks to the donors was passed.
Owing to rain and a densely overcast sky last night, the eclipse of the moon was not visible in Wellington, and the interesting astronomical observations which Dr Adams and his staff were prepared to make had to be abandoned.
