RETURNED SOLDIERS.

ASSOCIATIONS MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Tuesday night, and was attended by Messrs H. L. Paterson (president), A. M'Hutchon, E. J. Anderson, P. S. Anderson, R. Fullerton, J. Leedon, Forrester, A. J. Gordon, J. S. Skinner, H. H. Walker. Two new members were elected and two inward transfers were confirmed. Two deaths were reported, and motions of sympathy with the relatives were passed. Mr M'Hutchon, on behalf of the Unemployment Committee, reported that the whole of the Poppy Day money had been expended by the City Council in providing work. The committee had disbursed £2OO received from the Canteen Fund Board. A vote of £lOO had been made to the superintendent of reserves, and this amount would be subsidised for the provision of work in Dunedin. The sum of £5O had been voted to the Oamaru district.—The report was adopted. The Pensions Committee reported that three cases had been dealt with. In regard to the first, the "ommittee recommended that if satisfaction were not received from the War Pensions Board action by way of mandamus should be taken against the board. In the second case, the committee recommended that no further action be taken until a reply was received from the Minister.—The report was adopted, Mr E. J. Anderson being appointed to aet on behalf of the association if necessary. An invitation to members to attend the unveiling of the soldiers’s memorial window in St. Paul’s Cathedral this evening was received from the Rev. V. G Bryan King. The secretary reported that he had extended an invitation to the members of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition to become honorary members of the association during their stay in Dunedin.

The Lands Committee recommended the association’s assistance to one returned soldier and one soldier’s widow in the matter-of State advances, the recommendation being approved.
