Apparently what is meant by the term, “ a very large apple,” is not realised by people living outside Poverty Bay, if a remark passed at a recent meeting of orchardists is to be taken serious (says the Poverty Bay Herald). Mr Stephens, overseas representative of the New Zealand Fruit Control Board, who was addressing the meeting, mentioned that a trial shipment of very large apples had been sent to Rotterdam. The word “very” was objected to by one of those present wno said x hat they were merely large apples that had been sent Rotterdam; a total of 88 were packed to the case, while some of those which were grown in Poverty Bay would permit of only 42 to the case.
