Joseph Machin, garage proprietor, of Taumarunui, in whose yard the police discovered a case of whisky on August 11, was acquitted by the jury in the Supreme Court on a charge of keeping liquor for sale in contravention of the prohibition law applying to the King Country. Machin admitted that there were two previous convictions against him, but denied any knowledge of the whisky in the yard. The whisky was hidden under a heap of rubbish.
