The lion-tamer was asked how ho gained his wonderful power over animals. “It is by showing them I’m not afraid of them, and by keeping my eye steadily on theirs,” he explained. “ I’ll give you an example of the power of my eye.” He pointed to a roughlooking fellow who was sitting nearby. “ You see that fellow? ” he said. “ I’ll make him come across the room and I won’t say a word to him.” He fixed his keen, steady eye on the man. Presently the fellow straightened himself, got up, and came slowly across to the liotw tamer. When he was close enough, ha drew back his arm and struck the trainer a tremendous blow under the chin, and remarked: “You’ll stare at me like that again—won’t you ? ”
