FOUR-ROODIED HOUSE DESTROYED. NEW PLYDIOUTH, November 29. A four-roomed house on Wangarei road, owned and occupied by L. Deighton, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Nothing was saved. A large building known as Fa.tlknor’s coach factory in Hastings street waa totally destroyed by fire this morning. The wooden buildings nearby were saved by excellent brigade work, assisted by a good water supply. Dlessrs Holmes, Roberts, Ltd., and W. R. Dloss were the occupier.-’. The latter was not insured, but the firm was covered by a policy of £450 in the South British office. The building was insured for £750, divided between the South British and Atlas Companies. TWO-STOREYED HOUSE GUTTED. NAPIER, November 30. A spectacular fire of rather suspicious origin almost completely gutted a large two-storeyed house of 14 rooms in Heretaunga street, Hastings, at an early hour this morning. The building was recently occupied as a boarding house, but was empty at the time of the fire. It -was owned by Dr B. S. Storey. Built over 40 years ago, and first used as a girls’ seminary, later becoming a private hospital, and subsequently a boarding house, the building was quite a landmark in Hastings. The brigade was quickly on the scene after the alarm was given, but the flames evidently had a strong hold before attracting attention. A constable on duty and the firemen could do little more than save two or three rooms. The flames were leaping out and upwards to a great height and surging through the house from one side to the other with a noise like the rush of wind. It is believed that the fire had three distinct points of origin—one at the back and two in the front of the house. The insurances were not ascertainable. A SEVEN-ROODIED HOUSE DESTROYED. HADHLTON, November 30. The seven-roomed residence of J. W. Barr Brown, Putaturu, was destroyed by fire last night. The insurance on the building totalled £660 in the State office, and on the furniture £3OO in the British Traders office.
