The number of earthquake shocks felt in New Zealand in the year 1927 (states the annual report of the Dominion astronomer and seismologist), was 1110. Of these, 84 were felt in the North Island only and 16 in the South Island only. In 10 cases the same shock was felt in both islands. The maximum intensity of the shocks was 8 on the Rossi-Forel scale; in 1921 and 1922, it was 8; in 1923, 6; in 1924, 7; and in 1925 and 1926, 8 on the same scale.
