OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.

ANNUAL HORSE PARADE. The entries for the annual horse parade under the auspices of the Otago A. and P. Society closed on Wednesday with a total number of 23 entries, as compared with 34 the previous year. The falling off in the number of entries is entirely in the class for stallions four years old and over, for which only three entries have been received, against eight last year, and consequently there is a similar drop in the competition for Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co.’s challenge cup. The committee fully anticipated' that there would be a falling off in the number of entries in both these classes. It will be of interest to breeders to record the, results of the competition for the two clips presented by Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. through the Clydesdale Horse Society. The first cup had

to be won four times with a different animal each year. The first year the cup was competed for was in 1912, and was won by Baron Bold; 1913, Baron Sidey; 1914, Scotland’s Conqueror; 1915, Scotland’s Stamp; 1916, Boquhan Kennedy; 1917, Buchlybie’s Favourite; 1919, Knockinlaw Favourite; 1920, Springfield Stamp; 1921, Brilliant Again; 1922, Victory; 1923, Eddlewood Topline. This cup was won by Mr James Patrick, of Willowbridge. In the following year Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. again offered through the Clydesdale Horse Society a perpetual challenge cup, valued at 75 guineas, under similar conditions. The winner’s name each year will be engraved on the cup, and the owner will receive tire Clydesdale Horse Society’s medal (duly inscribed) as a memento. In 1924 it was won by Scotland’s Victor; 1925, Medrox Print; 1926, Ray of Hope; and 1927, Archaic. Entries for this class have to be passed by Government veterinary surgeons that the animals are free from certain hereditary diseases. Arrangements have been made with the Government veterinary surgeons to inspect the horses at the Otago Farmers’ Co-op. sale yards at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, the morning of the parade. Messrs John Macdonald, of Timaru, and Simon Fleming, of Crookston, have been appointed judges, and will commence at Tanuna Park at 11 a.m. sharp on Thursday, September 27. The following is a comparison of entries received last year compared with thia year:—
