SOUTH CANTERBURY.

INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION. At a meeting of the South Canterbury Manufacturers Association, Mr W. g. Irwin, who presided, said that Mr E. H. Marriner (organiser for the Canterbury Manufacturers Association) had written suggesting that he should visit Timaru and wait on the A. and P. Association to discuss the possibility of holding a joint exhibition early next year. The matter had been considered at a previous meeting, and the opinion, was that such a proposal was not practicable owing to the snearing and other opeartions. The Motor Garage Proprietors’ Association had been unable to help them this year, but if an exhibition were held early next s’ear that body would give the movement whole-hearted support. Something would have to be done to keep the association alive, and, if an exhibition were decided on, it would take about three months to work it up. Two halls were available for the holding of a show, but up tp the present no definite choice had been made. It was possible that the A. and P. Asso elation would assist, as it would give it an opportunity to display its ■ wool and produce. The exhibition would not be confined to South Canterbury. One exhibit had already been promised from Auckland, and it was hoped that many more would come from outside parts. Mr Irwin said that Mr Marriner had stated that if the association felt bound about the matter the Canterbury Association would come forward and assist on a fiftvfifty basis. J Mr Neale said that thp last exhibition had been well conducted, and he saw no reason why the association could not run one on its own.

A few of the members were of the opinion that the offer of the Canterbury Association w-as a sporting one, and they thought that it should be accepted. Mr E. Darroch said that the association should go ahead and hold an exhibi tion, for there were .many industries in the district which would make a fine show.

B was finally decided to affirm the desirability of holding an exhibition about Easter next, and that Mr Marriner’s offer to visit Timaru and discuss the proposal with the A. and P Association be accepted. . <-

The chairman said that if the A. and P. Association could not-co-operate, then other bodies should be approached in the matter.
