RECORD-BREAKING PLOUGH.

(Photograph in this Issue.) Breaking records are the order of the day at present, and'the latest instance is the flight across the Tasman. It is gratifying to find that records are also broken in the manufacturing world, as instanced by the latest plough manufactured by Messrs Heid and Gray, Ltd., Dunedin. Although making ploughs for over 60 years, and having made, some big ploughs during that period, for steam ploughing this firm has just completed the largest and heaviest plough of its type yet made. It is a single-furrow plough, for use with tractor, and the following dimensions will give some idea of its size:—The beam is 10ft long, 54in deep by IJin thick, height from ground 31in, sheath is 74in by 2in, mouldboard is 63in by 24in deep, back and front wheels are 30in by 4in, land wheel is a speciallydesigned steel wheel 45in by 44in, coulter blade is 30in, with 2Jin round coulter stalk. This plough will plough 12in deep by 26in wide, and weighs about 30cwt. It has been made to the special order of Flock House Farm, Palmerston North, and our local implement company is to be congratulated on the excellent workmanship and finish of the plough. It is gratifying to know that there is no need to import such ploughs into the Dominion, and the ploughs made by the Dominion makers give such excellent satisfaction to the users.
