PRICE OF PETROL.

PROTEST BY BULK RE-SELLERS. NELSON, September 20. After a long discussion in committee, the Motor Trade Conference passed the following resolution:— “ That this meeting of representatives of the petrol re-sellers of New Zealand views with concern the increasing importations of case petrol, which is being retailed at prices considerably lower than those at which bulk petrol is retailed through 'rdinary trade channels. When the petrol re-sellers were induced t< install pumps and make contracts for bulk petrol they were informed by importers that a saving of 3s per unit of eight gallons could be made by import ing petrol in bulk instead of in cans and cases. . It has been proved that case petrol is retailed at Is lOd per gallon at the main ports,'and bulk petrol should therefore be retailed at 4}d a gallon less. The small margin of profit allowed resellers does not permit their meeting this competition, and they therefore call on the oil importers to protect them against this competition.”
