“ Mayfield is the hub of the -county,” said Mr W. G. Gallagher when the name of the township was mentioned at the meeting of the Ashburton Power Board the other day (says the Guardian). He jocularly remarked that it was far ahead of Methven. The chairman thought it was just •as well the Methven members did not hear the remark. Other business was proceeding when Mr J. W. M. Dart suddenly looked up from some papers before him and asked: Where is this Mayfield, Mr Chairman?”
