THE COMPULSORY QUOTA. WELLINGTON, September 20. On the subject of the Government’s Kinematograph Films Bill, Mr J. Robertson, secretary of the New Zealand Exhibitors’ Association, said that, while they did not welcome the Government’s interference with business, they had recognised that the aim of the Government was legitimate and reasonable, and from the national viewpoint desirable. “ The Prime Minister has recognised that the exhibitors are meeting him fairly, and he has readily accepted the offer by the association to the effect that, if the Government suspends the operations of the compulsory quota clause, the exhibitors will voluntarily screen the quota of the Bill. It is -understood that failure to do so will bring the compulsory clauses into operation?’ Mr Robertson said he was sure the British film industry could supply good quality pictures to meet the demand.
