MOERAKI TOURNAMENT. x SENIOR CUP TO BE SHARED. The annual seven-a-side ladies’ hockey tournament held by the Watea Club at Aloeraki took place on Saturday. The usual ground was too small to accommodate the 20 teams entered for the meeting, so a large paddock about a mile further north than the club’s ground was obtained for the occasion, and on it three grounds were marked out. This was the seventh tournament held bv the Watea Club, and, unless the south-west breeze which swept across the flat could be said to mar the enjoyment of the day it was probably the best. Two of the entries defaulted—Kurow in the A section and Georgetown in the B section. Two cups are competed for at the tournament. The Moeraki Cup was presented by the Watea Club for competition in the senior grade, and the Te Aroha Cup, which was given by Messrs Reynolds ana Scully, is the junior trophy. The preliminary rounds were played off during the forenoon and the early part of the afternoon, and when they were nearing completion it was found that both actions were going to be closely contested In the senior grade Watea and Totara finished with 15 points, each having won six games and drawn three, so it was decided that, instead of playing off for the cup, they would each hold it for six months. Third place in the section was taken by Windsor with 12 points. The semi-final of the junior section provided an interesting game. Windsor and Watea II met to decide which would meet Pirata II in the final, and two extra spells had to be played before Watea II proved victorious. In the final game Pirata II was able to hold its lead and beat Watea II for first place, and this team will hold the Te Aroha Cup for the next .12 months. It is interesting to note that the senior Watea team has not suffered .a single defeat since September, 1926. HOCKEY OFFICIAL REINSTATM). CHRISTCHURCH, September 19. Fololwing a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Hockey, Association, it was announced that Mr R. H. Down had apologised to Mr Davey, who had accepted the apology, and expressed the wish to withdraw his letter of complaint to the association. Tn view of this, the Management Committee unanimously decided to rescind its previous resolution, and the incident is therefore closed in a manner creditable to all the parties concerned. Mr Down was reported for making an insulting remark to another referee at a tourney, and the committee proposed to ban him for three years.
