FOUND ASLEEP IN CAR.

•FINE OF £2O IMPOSED. MASTERTON, September 21. John Hoffman, of Tinui, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with having been in charge of a motor car on August 12 while in a state of intoxication. Hoffman and a man named Bird, licensee of the Tinui Hotel, were found on Blair Logie Hill asleep in the ear in which was a case of whisky. The defence was that both Hoffman and Bird had had only two drinks each during the day, and that the bottles in the case contained peppermint and cloves, and not whisky. The defendant was fined £2O and his license was suspended until the expiration of the present period, and he was prohibited from taking out another license for a further 12 months.
