ADJOURNED MEETING. An adjourned meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was held on September 17; present—Messrs H. E. Moller (chairman), W. Wilkinson, J. Loudon, J. W. Munro, C. H. Hayward, D. F. H. Sharpe,_ T. Anderson, W. Gow, A. Cable and Captain Coll M'Donald. TENDERS. Tenders for the following supplies were accepted:—Reinforcement rods, etc., Iron and Steel Company, £539 19s 2d; roof principals, Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company, £453; purlins, Messrs Haddock and Co., £353 Ils 3d; roof covering, Messrs Paterson and Barr, £843 15s 6d. THE NEW DREDGE. The. board went into committee to consider questions of finance in connec- ’ tiofi"-with the construction of the new dredge Otakou. The following report by the dredger Otakou Finance Committee was submitted: —“Your committee has been in negotiation with the board’s bankers, over a protracted period in an endeavour to arrange the necessary finance for the dredger at a satisfactory price. In this your committee was not successful. Consequently*, negotiations were opened up with Messrs J. B. Were and Son, and your committee has pleasure in reporting that it has concluded arrangements with this firm’s London house, at a most satisfactory figure.” The chairman reported that very satisfactory negotiations had been concluded with a London house, for the £125,000 required to meet the cost of the new dredger. The negotiations of the committee were confirmed, and the necessary authorising motions in connection with the completion of the negotiations and the issuing of the required debentures, and creation of sinking fund accounts were passed. Gratification was expressed at the success of the negotiations, and several jnembers expressed the opinion that the board’s executive officer (Mr Bardsley) was entitled to the highest credit for

the manner in which he had handled the matter.
