THE CHALMERS SEAT.

MR ANSELL’S CANDIDATURE. A meeting of supporters of Mr A. E. Ansell s candidature for the Chalmers seat was held in the Mosgiel Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. The meeting which was a particularly representative one, was presided over by Mr William Blackie, who, in introducing Mr Ansell to those present, paid a tribute to the zeal he had shown for the public welfare in the various organisations with which he was connected. Mr Ansell briefly outlined his policy and answered a number of questions bearing on present-day topics. It was unanimously decided that a committee be formed of all those present to further Mr Ansell’s candidature in the Mosgiel and Taieri districts. Mr A, Mitchell being appointed secretary. MR JAMES RITCHIE’S CAMPAIGN. Meetings in support of the candidature of Mr James Ritchie (official Reform candidate for Central Otago) have within the past week been held at Lawrence, Miller’s Flat, Roxburgh, Queenstown, and Pembroke. In each place strong committees have been formed to assist the candidate "in the coming campaign. During this week the balance of the electorate will be organised in readiness for the campaign. Mr Ritchie is well known to the electors of Central Otago, having opposed M r James Horn on the two past occasions.
