AQUATICS.

OTAGO YACHT CLUB. The annual meeting and reunion of members of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club was held on Tuesday evening in Kroons Hall. The commodore (Mr C. W. Sundstrum) presided over a lar<m attendance of members and visitors from other Otago aquatic clubs. The visitors included Mr A. Burt, of Auckland, and Captain E. E. Watson. TJ I ®. kail was attractively decorated with flags, and there was a very fine display of trophies. The commodore, in moving the adoption i * l re f >or t an d balance sheet, said that the past season had been very successful, and had passed off' smoothly. A number of improvements had been carried out at the boat harbour, and these had been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the had lost a number of boats during the year, several having left the harbour”, but it was pleasing to know that quite a number of new boats would be seen on the harbour during the coming season, lhe balance sheet showed a slight loss, but this was accounted for by the fact that the improvements effected reached a sum o. (30, spent this year. Ihe report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr Paul paid a tribute to the work accomplished by Mr Sundstrum during the time lie had held the position of commodore. The retiring commodore had done splendid work. He (Mr Paul) intended to do all he could in the interest of the sport and the club. He recognised that he was following in the footsteps of men who had worthily upheld the traditions of the sport and the club. He expressed regret at the retirement of Mr Sundstrum, who had proved a pattern as the club’s chief executive officer. Mr Sundstrum retired with the best wishes of club members for his future health and prosperity. Every member of the club appreciated what Mr Sundstrum had done for the sport. The retiring commodore had held the position of flag officer for about 17 years, and had always been a great help to the club. As the new commodore, Mr Paul said he had several important matters affecting the welfare of the club to discuss with the committee in the future. He thought that the club should have a list compiled of past commodores. so that the names of these men would be perpetuated. He asked the committee and members to give their hearty co-operation, and it was hoped that they would be able to report another successful year at the end of next season. The committee recommended that all boat owners must pay all dues, such as membership, slip, caretaker's, and shed fees, before being allowed to use the slip or be entitled to the privileges of the club.—The recommendation was put to the meeting in the form of a resolution, and after Mr Paul had briefly explained the necessity for tightening up the regulations, it was unanimously agreed to. The commodore presented the prizes to last season’s winners, numbering 27. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Commodore, Mr J. T. Paul; vice-commodore, Air A. W. Hazelwood: rear-commodore, Mr P. Drummond; treasurer, Mr F. Goodwin; club captain, Mr L. Lynn; committee—Messrs W. Henderson. T. G. Fronde. J. Angell, R. Cahill, J. Jardine, A. E. Dawson, J. Thompson. H. A. Robinson, R. J. Paul, M. West: secretary, Mr J. H. A. M’Keefry; auditors, Messrs. N. H. Oliphant and B. H. Nees; delegates to the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association, Messrs J. T. Paul and T. Goodwin. During the evening a large number of pictures, interesting to all boating men and those connected with the sea, were shown on the screen. The pictures included views of ships under sail, famous yachts, famous Atlantic liners, including the ill-fated Lusitania and the hospital ship Brittanic (sunk during the war), the Great Eastern, rough weather scenes, and views of local yachts under sail on Otago Harbour. The pictures, many of which were photographed by Mr Sundstrum, were of more than passing interest, and the outlines of every vessel was clearly depicted. A number' of items was played by the Yacht Club’s orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr M. West and greatly appreciated.
