PRODUCE MARKETS.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 31. The outstanding feature of the grain and produce market since the previous report is the decided easing of the potato market. This state of things is due to the large quantities that have come forward from the country, with the result that there is. at least temporarily, an over supplv. The Wingatui during the week took a total of 10,000 sacks and the Kurow was loading to-day at Timaru 6000 sacks, while at Lyttelton there is, it is estimated, between 7000 and 8000 sacks awaiting shipment. Of this quantity the Kartigi is to lift what is shut out of'the Kurow. Although prices are reported to be 5s less than recent quotations, some sales were effected to-day at £4 15s Over-sellers have come on the market, and sales have been effected at £5 12s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., for September, and £5 10s for October. • > There is a better demand for fowl wheat, and sales have been made at 5s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., for prompt delivery. There is also a better inquiry for milling, and 6s f.o.b. is obtainable for f.a.q., but the bulk of the milling wheat that is offering is slightly under-grade, and fetches anything from 4d to 5d per bushel less.' The canvass in connection with the Cooperative Wheat Selling Association, as far as it has gone, is reported to be quite satisfactory to date, and 240 growers, representing 15,000 acres, have signed up.
