NORFOLK ISLAND TRADE.

REGULAR SERVICE ADVOCATED. AUCKLAND, August 29. Colonel P. Stevenson, of Auckland, who was a passenger by the Maui Pomare from Norfolk Island, says that its possibilities are u..limited, and that if a regular service were established with Auckland it would be of great benefit to the Islands, and New Zealand would soon have the bulk of the trade. If a voyage were delayed or cancelled much packed fruit was lost, and great dissatisfaction was caused. The islanders had only two days’ notice to prepare a general cargo of 1000 cases of fruit, besides other produce for Auckland, and the Maui Pomare’s call had Crushed with the Macamba’s from Sydney the previous evening. The tourist traffic was also now certain, and numerous visitors had been compelled to put in - prolonged holiday under the new Administrator (Judge Herbert), Norfolk’s prospects were very bright, but an essential system of taxes to be substituted for communal labour was now required on the roads.
