TRAVEL BY AIR.
NETWORK OF EUROPEAN SERVICES. AUCKLAND, August 28. Mr C. J. Lawford, of Auckland, who returned to-day by the Maheno after visiting England, Europe, and America, gave some interesting information about the trips he made by air. He flew in British, Danish, and German machines to all parts of Europe, and he hands the palm to the Germans, though, he says, the British machines are splendidly built and most comfortable. Aviation in Germany has reached a very high standard, Mr Lawford says. One flight that he made from Hamburg to Berlin was much cheaper than by rail. The German services leave to the minute. There is great activity in Germany at the present time because of preparations for a fleet of transatlantic flying boats with which the Germans hope to capture the trade to America. One of the longest flights made by Air Lawford was from Switzerland to Paris. This was made in a British machine. From Croydon, the London station, he flew to Amsterdam in a German machine. On the way they passed seven machines in the air, all carrying passengers and bound for different countries. At every air station there are machines arriving and departing, as well as numberless private jnachines. Business men think nothing of . flying from England to Europe or vice versa in their own planes. There is also an air route from Croydon to Moscow. Longer services are to be established shortly, and there is 'no doubt that air travel will be a big factor in future , ' ‘
