WEEKLY MARKET REPORTS Burnside, August 29. Fat Cattle.—There was a fairly large yarding approximating 250 head. The entry consisted chiefly of medium to prime ox, with a fair proportion of choice cows and heifers, and also an odd pen of extra prime bullocks. CANTERBURY MARKETS. ■" CHRISTCHURCH. August 28. Markets are reported easier’ generally, with little business passing. The wheat market remains as it Iras been for the past few weeks. There are few buyers, and more wheat is offering than they wish to take up. Oats are, if anything, a shade weaker. A Gartons are available from 3s 104 d to 3s lid, f.0.b., s.i., and B’s at 3s sd, but few sales are reported. Although showing an easier tendency, potatoes are worth £4 15s on trucks, but there is not much inquiry. The Wingatui took 4200 sacks from Lyttelton and 6000 from Timaru, which will land on a fairly bare market in the North Island. Chaff is reported to be available at £3 10s a ton on trucks. WAIAREKA SALE. ■ There was a small offering of stock at Tuesday’s sale at the Waiareka yards Sheep were represented by only three pens, one of mixed two, four, six. and eight-tooth ewes, a couple of pens of hoggets, but none reached vendor.’s reserves, and all were passed. The small array of cattle was mostly- in the fat pens, and these sold as follow:—Fat steer, £l4 ss; best heifers, £l2 15s and £l3; two light heifers, £6 10s and £8 ss; two cows, £lO and £lO 2s 6d. The remainder of the cattle consisted of dairy stock, and sold as follow:—Cows in milk, £8 10s, £B, and £7 ss; cow coming to profit, £7. 2s 6d; Jersey heifer in milk, £7. • There was a large penning of pigs, and the market was Back, the range of prices being as follow:—Large stores, 26s 6d to 27s 6d; slips, 18s 6d to 21s; best weaners, 12s to 15s; medium weaners, 10s to Ils; small weaners, 8s to 9s.
