The following questions to political candidates as recommended by the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association were adopted by the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association on Thursday:—“(l) Will you support legislation designed to give adequate tariff protection to local industries against unequal conditions of competition from abroad? (2) Will you support a proposal to establish in New Zealand a permanent tariff board to inquire into- and make recommendations on any suggested tariff revision with a view to immediate legislation if necessary.” The Auckland body wrote:—-“The general opinion of members is that it it not judicious to ask too many questions, as the greater the number of questions the greater the opportunity for hedging - in their replies.’
