A decrease of £94 -was shown in the Christchurch tramway revenue for Grand National Week, as compared with the same period last year (reports the Lyttelton Times). This year the revenue totalled £7734, while that obtained last year was £7828. An old Wanganui Maori, who is a great student of Nature, predicts a good summer (states an exchange). The winter has been kind, the spring is early, and the summer will be a good one,” he said. Asked if there -would be a drought, the old Native replied: “The summer will be warm and dry and the flax will flowei early and long.” A doubting pakeha asked how the Maori was able to explain these climatic forecasts. “We observe and remember,” replied the old riian. “We know these things.” And most Europeans will hope the predictions prove correct, especially if a daylight-saving 'scheme is adopted. :
