THE EDUCATION SYSTEM.
DRASTIC REVISION NECESSARY. NEED FOR REFORM RECOGNISED. WELLINGTON, August 21. Four questions of importance to to teachers—salaries, superannuation, smaller classes, and the regulations—were brought before the Minister of Education (Mr R. A. Wright) by a deputation from the executive of the Educational Institute. Mr Wright said one factor seemed clear—that any new basis of salary would increase the - cost of education. However, it seemed to him that the present system had served its purpose, and was now practically obsolete. Any assistance the institute could give in drawing up a new scheme would be welcomed. The Minister said he thought the Government would have to strengthen tlfc superannuation fund. It was his aim to bring all classes down to 40. He had been striving as far as possible to give classes separate rooms. It should be their aim to make the primary school system as perfect as possible.
