A bequest of £2OOO has been made to Canterbury College by Professor W. P. Evans, now of Wellington,, but for many years professor of chemistry at Canterbury College. This will carry a Government subsidy, and the total sum (£4000) will be used to establish two scholarships for the study of science, to be awarded the most promising science student in Nelson College in alternate years, and tenable at Canterbury College for four years. Professor Evans is an old boy of Nelson College, and an emeritus professor of Canterbury College, and he has chosen this means to benefit the two institutions with which he has been so prominently associated.
