ASSOCIATION.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES. DUNEDIN. The second year of competition for the Fletcher Cup has proved an exciting and interesting one. The finalists on Saturday, Northern and Maori Hill, drew for the second time this season, necessitating 20 minutes’ extra play, which again brought no finality to the issue, and unless the association decides'otherwise, a further replay will follow. The game, which was played on the Oval, attracted over 2000 spectators. The play' was fast and clean, and the fortunes of the game fluctuated, so that neither side could be said to have had the better of the other to any extent. The result was a fair indication of the respective merits of the teams, the final scores being: — Maori Hill 1 goal. Northern 1 goal. THIRD GRADE. Northern A 1, Te Taumata 1. Port Chalmers A 3, Old Boys A 1. Technical 1, Te Taumata B nil. Port Chalmers B 4, Northern nil. FOURTH GRADE.

The semi-final of the North Island “ Soccer ” Chatham Cup tie, played here to-day between Hastings United and Petone. resulted in a win for Petone by 3 goals to 1. The winners will play the Y.M.C.A., the Auckland semi-finalists, there on August 18. Hastings United won the toss and played with a strong westerly wind in its favour. Petone played better football, but was harassed by the wind. D." Penman netted for Hastings. Petone kept up the pressure, and fine combination saw M'Kenzie equalise the scores. In the second half Petone kept its opponents bottled up, and only the' wonderful efforts of Wilson (the Hastings custodian) prevented a runaway victory. Leslie netted twice for Petone. In the- final stages Hastings made strenuous efforts to pull the game out of the fire,'but was unable to do so. FRASER CUP. TIMARU, August 5. A Fraser Cup tie between the Colmoco Club, of Timaru, (black and white), and the Oamaru Rangers (blue), was played before a large attendence at Russell Square on Saturday. Good football was witnessed, but a strong north-westerly wind, which blew throughout the game, kept the play practically in the one area. Colmoco proved victors by 1 goal to nil. The general opinion was that, had there been better conditions, the visitors would* have won, for they, on the day’s play, seemed to have the better side. Then, again, the only goal of th e day by M’Lellan was a snap shot, and lucky to a degree. After the match the visitors were entertained at dinner and left early for Oamaru.
