A pleasing eight from .the Marine parade (Napier) on a recent afternoon was that of a lady, resident in that quarter, busily engaged in feeding a considerable flock of gulls from the beach. Uttering their shrill cries, the birds evidently recognised a friend, and appreciated both the kind thought, prompting the action and the meal provided, for they exhibited tameness, wheeling in the air just above the head of their benefactress and then coming to rest at her feet to make their meal. From the numbers present it seemed apparent that the lady makes a regular practice of providing a meal for the birds in this way.
