Four young emus from the Auckland. Zoo were shipped on board the Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s steamer Port Napier, which sailed from Auckland for New York last week. Two of the birds will be landed at New York and two at London, and in each city they will be sent to the zoological gardens in exchange for exhibits, which will be forwarded to Auckland.
Figures compiled by the Railways Department show that over 15,000 excursionists have walked from Arthur’s Pass to Otira in the past two years, and that on recent excursions up to 00 per cent, of the passengers detrained at the Pass and completed the journey to Otira ou foot.
