OTAGO HUNT CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL MEET AT WINGATUI. Despite most unfavourable weather conditions, the Otago Hunt Club held a very successful meet over the property of Mr W. Rennick at Wingatui on Saturday afternoon. The keenness of members was shown by the unusually large number of followers taking part, all of whom completed the run without mishap. Quite a large number of spectators, most of whom had motored out from Dunedin, witnessed the run from Gladstone road, an excellent view of the whole run being obtained from this point of vantage. Considering the soft state of the ground after the recent heavy rain the exhibition of jumping was first-class, the jumps were fairly stiff. It was pleasing to see so many lady riders following on a miserable day. The intention of the club was to make the run a long one, through both the properties of Messrs Rennick and Graham, but owing to the heavy going the run was shortened, Mr Renniek’s property only being hunted over. The hounds were sent away on the trail shortly after 3 p.m., and going well led the followers to the first jump, which was a gorse hedge, the hunt getting over this jump with one exception. The second jump was also a gorse hedge, which was cleared by all. and the next one was a made-up hurdle in the middle of the paddock. At this jump many of the horses baulked owing to the greasy take off. but all eventually got over. The remaining nine jumps consisted of a post and rail and gorse hedges, all of which were negotiated without any trouble. The following Wingatui horses followed the hounds and jumped very well for their first time out: —Decision, Relic (who was ridden by Miss Dorothy Acton-Axdams, of Canterbury), Lochella. Koromata, and Strongbird (in R. McDonald’s stable), and a black gelding by Tractor —Dusky, owned by Mr J. A. Gow, of Outram. Other horses that jumped well were Kismet, Felix, Blackbird (a black gelding by Tractor), Red Art (a bay by Sarto— Redwing), and Heather Bloom. Although it rained all afternoon the run was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. On account of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s races being held next Saturday, there will not be a meet on that day. Among those following were:—The muster (Air L. Mowat) on Jenny Lynd, deputy master (Mr N. Murdoch) on Kismet, huntsman (Al. Shine) on John Peel; whip (D.
