DUNEDIN SAVINGS BANK.

THE YEAR’S OPERATIONS. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin Savings Bank trustees, held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr G. L. Denniston was unanimously re-elected president of the bank, a position which he has held since 1906. Mr E. A. Rosevear was unanimously reelected deputy president. The Manager, Mr J. Quaile, in submitting the balance sheet for the year ended on March 31, said that the total number of depositors in the bank was 19,548. There were 14,225 in the head office, 3307 in the South Dunedin branch, and 2016 in the North Dunedin branch. The numbers constituted a record in the history of the bank. The number of depositors for the previous year was 17.207. The total standing to the credit of depositors af the end of the year was £1,580,394, the figures for the year ended March 31, 1927, being £1,400,782. The amount deposited in the bank for the year was £856.734, the withdrawals for the. period totalling £744,414. The interest paid to depositors for the past year was £67,292, and after allowing for the usual charges the bank shows a handsome profit of £11.305. Commenting on the operations of the bank to our representative, Mr Quaile stated that a very noticeable feature was the number of youths and girls who were placing savings in the bank. The number was far greater than ever previously. He was satisfied that the bank was serving a very useful purpose in the community.
