Although it is considered to be a necessary adjunct to a modern city, the crematorium at Waikumete cemetery is very little used (states the Auckland correspondent of the Taranaki Herald). In the four and a-lwilf years since it was opened tbeve have been only 181 crematf •v<s. Apostles of this method of disposing of the dead, however, need not despair at the smallness of the figures, for the returns for the year which ended on March 31 show that, with 43 cremations, tne total was 10 more than in the previous year.
