Otago, at Dunedin. AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS. September 14. —Versus Otago, at Carisbrook, AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS’ TOUR. WELLINGTON, August 23. The Australian Schoolboys’ Association football team, the first of its kind to leave Australia, arrived at Wellington by the Ulimaroa-to-day to tour the Dominion. The team was welcomed by the New Zealand and Wellington Football Associations. T'ho l>oys play at Wellington to-morrow, and then proceed north. While at Aueklan 1 they will play one test. August 24. The Australian Schoolboys’ Association team played its first game of the New Zealand tour to-day, when it was beaten by 3 goals to 1 by a Wellington schoolboys’ team. Mallinson scored all three coals for Wellington, and Follett scored for Australia. The game was a good exhibition, with many lost chances by both teams. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 27. The Australian Schoolboys’ Soccer team played a Manawatu team this afternoon in fine weather. Scientific football was shown hy the visitors, who were superior in all departments, winning by 5 goals to nil. OPPOSITION BY TEACHERS. WELLINGTON, August 26. Strong comment was made at a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association last night when a report was received from the Poverty Bay Association stating that the game was being interfered with by the master of one of the schools. Mr Varney mentioned that the Otago Association had asked the council to take up the same matter some time ago. Members expressed indignation at tlie action of the Gisborne master, and were of the opinion that the council now had a case to take before the education authorities. It was decided that Messrs Varney and Renai should interview the Director of Education. THE CHATHAM CUP. NORTHERN WIN SOUTH ISLAND FINAL. CHRISTCHURCH, August 27. The South Island final of the Chatham Cup was played at English Park to-day, when Northern, the Otago champions, met Nomads, the Canterbury premiers. The ground was sticky and there was a cold wind from the south, but the day was clear.
The first half was very even, and ended with no score. In tne middle of the second half, from a scrimmage, M’Tavish (Northern) whipped in a fast shot, which had M’Dougall beaten all the way. Northern kept up the attack, and from a perfect corner by G. M’Dowell, M’Lean netted. The Christchurch men then attacked, led by Frickleton who dropped the ball into the goal mouth, Trotter registering. Time went with play in mid field, and the scores were: Northern, 2; Nomads, 1. AUCKLAND. Ponsonby defeated Rotowaro by four goals to nil. WELLINGTON. Marist defeated Y.M.C.A. by eight goals to nil. Marist (Wellington) will play Manawatu at Wellington on September 3, and the winners of this match will play Ponsonby.
