Matters have commenced to move in connection with the Wellingfeon-Tawa Flat railway deviation. Tenders are now being ca.led by the Public Works Department for the construction of the deviation, but these will not be closed until February 21 Tenders have closed for a portion .. the preliminary work. The deviation wdl be approximately seven miles long, ana will include the construction of a tunnel about two miles 53 chains long, and the completion of another tunnel approximately 60 chains long, the bottom heading of which will be driven under a separate contract. The tenders which closed to-day relate to the driving of the bottom heading ot what is known as the first tunnel.
