A member of the Carterton Football Club, while taking part in a game on the Carterton showgrounds last week, had the misfortune to lose his clothes, which were left where the players change. On returning. after the match he discovered that all his clothes, including an overcoat had been taken, his boots only being left. The matter was renorted to the police. The player, who lives some distance out of town, had to reutrn home in his football clothes. A Timaru radio expert, commenting on the opening programme from Wellington, after saying that i .odulation was perfect, described the fading as bad, leaving room for a lot of improvement (says the Timaru Herald). The cause of fading is obscure, and the Broadcasting Company ascribes it to local conditions. The expert referred to, however, said: “At present I am listening to I’CJJ, Endhoven, Holland, direct on 30.2 metres. I am getting ‘this on the loud speaker, and although I have been listening for nearly three hours there has been no fading whatever. The items come through as clearly- ”as any New Zealand station. There is a slight difficulty in understanding everything the announcer says--he is a Dutchman. There have been several organ and pianoforte solos (compositions by Rubenstein, Bach, and Verdi), also several gramophone items. During the interval you can distinctly hear what appears to'be a grandfather’s clock ticking.”
